DATABASE AND WEB SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that sustains the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, the Air Force One Pavilion, the Center for Public Affairs and the Presidential Learning Center.  Located in Simi Valley, California the Library houses over 55 million pages of Gubernatorial, Presidential and personal papers, an extraordinary collection of photographs and film, and over 100,000 gifts and artifacts chronicling the lives of Ronald and Nancy Reagan. 

This position is responsible for administrating the centralized database for the Reagan Foundation, including data stewardship, cleaning and adherence to business/data standards, data extractions for all users as well as configuration and maintenance.  This position will also administrate all aspects of the website (www.reaganlibrary.com), including, but not limited to, active participation, coordination with other staff, and working with outside vendors in updating the website architecture, managing website content, working with social networking sites, overseeing internet search engine optimization strategies, monitoring website usage, implementing streaming audio/video and other technologies into the website and related areas.

The successful candidate will work with different departments within the Foundation (education, marketing, development, etc.) to identify website and database needs and to transform those needs into an end product with high quality and performance. 

This individual must have experience working with many different constituencies, be an effective communicator, be creative, and have strategic vision for the Foundation’s website.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Database Administrator
    • Administrates the MS SQL database environment used within the Foundation
    • Administers the Foundation’s database, including but not limited to: database environment configuration and maintenance; testing and installing software upgrades; backing up data; assuring that data adheres to established standards; suggesting and establishing new database processes and standards; running of routine maintenance programs
    • Combines database information from external sources into central database, generates reports and recurring jobs.
    • Extracts information for users from the database, including but not limited to: assistance in the running of financial, marketing and fundraising statistics and standard information; mailing lists; adhoc queries, etc.
    • Working with outside IT vendor, will facilitate research of new technologies to improve and enhance existing methods and system administration, utilizing this information to recommend purchases.  Will maintain a working knowledge of all operating and application software in use within the organization, keeping informed as to trends within the field of computers, networking and system administration.
  • Web Site Management
    • Oversee all external relationships regarding the website, including a web development company
    • Research and work with social networking sites and other strategic partnerships to further the goals and recognition of the website
    • Work with outside vendors and marketing department to optimize search engine results
    • Work with department managers to gather requirements, define key project tasks, identify deliverables, and implement those needs
    • Manage day-to-day web services activities, including some update posting to website (events, press releases, calendar, museum store items, etc), monitoring traffic and usage reports, and answering and supporting the info@reaganfoundation.org email bo
  • Education Department Web/Technology Liaison
    (a minimum of 30% of daily duties will be to support the Education Team)
    • Work directly with the Education Department to create a Distance Learning program via the web, which includes (but is not limited to):
    • Streaming video/audio clips of Ronald Reagan on the web
    • Streaming video/audio clips of on-site Teacher’s and Student’s Workshops (to include the filming of workshops, conversion of files to web applications, and posting to website)
    • Changing and updating curriculum
    • Scheduling tours online
    • Updating a website calendar of events for upcoming educational programming
    • Research and implement pod-casting for workshops and lessons
  • Add Technological Advances to the Website
    • Research and manage incorporation of technological advances into the Website
      • Streaming media for the Center for Public Affairs programs
      • Blogging
      • Pod-casting
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree required.  
  • 5+ years of work experience including a proven and quantifiable record in:
    • Database management experience.
    • Project management, web site development and web technologies.
    • Specification development.
  • Comfortable working on both small and large projects, with the ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent professional skills with demonstrated ability to delegate, negotiate and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Uncompromising personal integrity.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Outlook and Visio.
  • Solid understanding of both hardware and software, and basic knowledge of full product development life cycle required.
  • Must know MS SQL Server administration and maintenance and be familiar with dynamic web applications and web 2.0 technologies.
  • A high capacity for attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Strong management skills with a demonstrated ability to plan, organize, lead, and provide feedback to staff.
  • Well-developed people and communication skills, suited to working effectively as part of a team.
