DIRECTOR OF THE WALTER AND
LEONORE ANNENBERG PRESIDENTIAL LEARNING CENTER
AT THE RONALD REAGAN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation is a non-profit, non-partisan
organization that sustains the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library
and Museum, the Air Force One Pavilion, the Center for Public Affairs
and the Presidential Learning Center. Located in Simi Valley, California
the Library houses over 55 million pages of Gubernatorial, Presidential
and personal papers, an extraordinary collection of photographs
and film, and over 100,000 gifts and artifacts chronicling the lives
of Ronald and Nancy Reagan.
As the result of a generous grant by the Annenberg Foundation,
the Reagan Foundation now seeks an experienced education professional
to provide leadership and high quality management for a range of
programs for the expanded and newly-named Walter and Leonore Annenberg
Presidential Learning Center at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
The Center will now be national in scope, focusing on five major
components: teacher training, curriculum development, student programming,
partnerships with national organizations and technology to increase
visibility, accessibility and reach. Together, all these components
will establish the Center as a model for empowering educators and
youth to become better citizens. It is our intent that the implementation
of this vision will fill a great educational void and bring civic
education back to schools throughout the country in a way that will
engage, excite and educate students.
RESPONSIBILITIES The Director of the Center will
be responsible for the development, implementation and oversight
of the following:
- TEACHER TRAINING – to have the greatest
national impact we will focus on training teachers throughout
the country by providing resources in three key areas: on-site,
web-based and regional in-school opportunities. This will include
workshops, training modules and an annual summer institute for
national civics educators.
- CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT – to enhance our
current curricula, we will expand our Education Advisory Counsel
to include prominent national educators to further develop civic
and history based instructional material. Programs will be based
on case study methodology, how technology can help aid the curricula,
non-traditional formatting, and effectively working within and
improving federal and state standards.
- STUDENT PROGRAMMING – creating and implementing
exciting programming is critical in the education experience for
students. The unique resources, only available at the Reagan Library,
will provide exciting educational opportunities. Among others,
the programs will include the Air Force One Discovery Center,
an innovative educational approach designed to empower students
with the skills to become expert decision makers through a highly
sophisticated, technologically advanced and integrated series
of simulations and pedagogical materials; Presidential Week, an
annual five day conference for high school students entering their
senior year on the topic of effective political discourse in American
politics.
- PARTNERSHIPS – we will increase our partnerships
with nationally recognized civic organizations, colleges and universities,
media groups and federal institutions to have a greater impact
in strategic areas. All partnerships will include website linkage
to encourage further participation by the students.
- TECHNOLOGY – to expand our reach to an
increasingly connected national audience, we will significantly
develop our website to include the latest teaching concepts. The
goal is to make it easy to navigate, content rich and interactive.
Key areas will include streaming video, pod casts, lesson plans,
classroom materials, publications, student projects, linkage (for
all programs and partnerships), and a “call to action”
(opportunities on ways to get involved in local and national communities).
